1; Video

[The only sound for a moment is the knock of the gear being tapped against something semi-hard, and similarly the only thing in focus is a white eggshell with the corners of red and blue shapes.

Also the sound of the 'Gear being chewed on. Omnomnomnom.]

Are you getting into trouble already, you little scamp?

[The voice is deep, warm, and affectionate.]

That's not food, here, let me trade you-

[The feed is a little smeared on one corner, and the camera unknowingly focuses on a large, pale hand offering one of the donuts rice balls that Mom packs standard in her bento to a very small Togepi, who takes it in its little hands and shoves the whole thing into its mouth at once. The voice laughs offscreen, and the camera gets a closeup of his green overalls as he untucks his purple t-shirt to wipe the drool off the corner.

It's then that he notices that the camera's on, and finally brings his face into focus.]

...Sorry about that, I hope he didn't bother anybody.

[Good thing their evolutions weren't brought up, then.]

They're not the easiest species to start with, but they are very helpful if you wish to travel quickly. Togepis grow to be extremely strong, with enough affection and time, but the little one cannot yet chase away the wildlife with his mere presence.

Is that so?

[That certainly explains the look. And also...]

Whoever chose your starter must have known about it, and felt a Togepi would be perfect for you. Our starters are often strangely appropriate, in unexpected ways.

[Cecil beams at the adorableness, though his smile dims slightly almost immediately after.]

That's because I have indeed. I arrived slightly over five years ago; hundreds, if not thousands of people have come and gone, over the years.

I've explored most of the routes we are allowed to visit. If you take your time and enjoy the scenery, you'll have new sights to see for years to come. But if that's not to your taste, there's always the option of settling down.

You'll have plenty of time to think about it, unless you fall in love with Cherrygrove and refuse to leave. Each city is worth visiting once, and there are hundreds of Pokémon species to meet along the way.

If you intend to see them all? You'll be adventuring for decades. We've had new species appear more than once, over the last five years; when you think you've found them all, more decide to fall from the sky.
